Postdoctoral Research Fellows

Two Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions are currently available in the laboratory of Madepalli Lakshmana, Ph.D., Associate Member. The long-term objective of our research is to discover molecular targets to reduce generation of amyloid beta peptide (Aβ) in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease. We recently demonstrated that RanBP9 increases Aβ generation in both cell cultures and APP transgenic mice. To further investigate the role of RanBP9 in Aβ production in vivo, we have successfully generated RanBP9 null mice using gene-trap strategy. Applicants with an interest in Alzheimer's disease are encouraged to apply.

Using both RanBP9 transgenic and knockout mice, the first postdoc will study the role of RanBP9 in dendritic and spine injury in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease by crossing with APP transgenic mice. The successful candidate must have a background in neurobiology and extensive experience in immunohistochemical staining. Skills in basic molecular biology are a plus.

The second postdoc will identify RanBP9 binding proteins by yeast two-hybrid system and further explore their potential role in amyloidogenesis. Desirable applicants must possess strong molecular biological skills in addition to knowledge in neurobiology.

To apply, please email your curriculum vitae, the contact information for three scientific references, and a cover letter describing your research interests to Dr. Madepalli Lakshmana at mlakshmana@tpims.org.
