Teams

One exciting new addition we are implementing for the 2012 Race for Research Half Marathon and 5K is a team division. All teams will be eligible for a discounted entry fee, as well as special team division prizes. Team members will still be eligible for individual prizes.

  • Teams are required to have at least 5 participants to avoid an additional entry fee of $50.
  • Each team should designate a captain who will register himself/herself with specific team name; all other members may register individually indicating the team to which they belong.
  • Teams may be coed and vary in age groups.

Team Awards

Awards will be given to the team that raises the greatest amount of money, as well as to the team with the fastest overall age-graded performance. Teams or individuals interested in establishing online fundraising campaigns for the event should visit the link set up on active.com at http://www.active.com/donate/TPI_RaceForResearch

Awards will be given to the top three teams based on age/gender-graded performances as follows:

A team must have at least five participants. The teams can comprise of men and women and may have members that compete in either the 5K or half marathon.

Sample team:

  • Jane Doe. Gender: Female, Age 42, half marathon
  • John Doe, Gender: Male, Age 38, 5K
  • Bill Smith, Gender: Male, Age 60, half marathon
  • Jill Hill, Gender: Female, Age 23, half marathon
  • Jack White, Gender: Male, Age 45, 5K

Every participant’s time will be age/gender graded using the Masters Age Grading Tables found here. Based on these tables each participants time will be converted to a percent. See last year’s half marathon results converted to a percent here.

The three participants from each team that receive the highest percent will be counted in the team score. The teams will be ranked by the average of their top three percent scorers.

Below are the planned courses for the Race for Research 5K and Half Marathon events. Please note that both courses are entirely on paved roads. The area of Tradition is relatively new and Google does not yet have all the roads mapped. This is why on the course maps it appears the routes run on unpaved roads.

There will be 1 aid station on the 5K course at approximately mile 2.
