Dr. Schraufstatter earned her M.D. from the University of Aachen in Germany and completed her studies in pharmacology at King's College in London, UK and in immunology at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA. She was an Assistant Professor at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA from 1989 - 1999 in the Department of Immunology and a Professor from 1999 - 2007 in the Division of Cancer Biology at the La Jolla Institute for Molecular Medicine in San Diego, CA. Dr. Schraufstatter is an Adjunct Member in the Immunology Department at the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies.

Research Focus

Dr. Schraufstatter's research focuses on the role of chemokines and the anaphylatoxins C3a and C5a on cell signaling and migration of leukocytes, and has over the last several years expanded to the effect of these chemotactic factors on stem cells.
